However, various aspects of Revit make use of multiple cores and threads, so you shouldn’t sacrifice all cores for clock speed. Vector printing, Autodesk Raytracer, Loading elements into memory, and color fill calculations are just a few of the types of operations Revit performs on many cores.

Multi-core functionality in Revit is limited to 16 Cores, so we don’t recommend a CPU exceeding this limit as you won’t see any benefit and will often cost you more money. With this in mind, we recommend a processor with a delicate balance between cores, threads and frequency for your modeling tasks.

Intel Core and AMD Ryzen processors all fit well in this bracket. When choosing between the Intel and AMD offerings, we recommend that you consider whether you plan to use the system for other tasks. Intel Core and AMD Ryzen are very comparable options for single core performance and both perform well. AMD has a bit more bang for your buck in the Multi-Threaded areas, which can be helpful in Revit, but very helpful if you plan to run other applications at the same time.

If you plan on CPU processing your Revit projects, you should consider upgrading to a much higher core count processor. AMD Ryzen Threadripper Workstations are outstanding for this. Alternatively, an Intel Core X-series Workstation would also be a good choice.

Which Graphics Card is best for Autodesk Revit?

However, for those looking to take advantage of the GPU rendering technology available through third-party rendering plugins like Chaos Group’s V-Ray, slightly stronger multi-GPU performance will be required.

Other Key Components to Consider for Revit

To complete your new Autodesk Revit Workstation you should consider system memory (RAM) capacity and Storage Drives. We recommend 16GB of system memory for light users, 32GB for average users, and 64GB for heavy users. However, having too many can be costly and you won’t see any performance benefits.
